“BXL swings in the cracks”Is een ontwerp-onderzoeksproject, binnen de Hogeschool LUCA/KU Leuven, over het gebruik en toe-eigening van de publieke ruimte in de hedendaagse steden.
De strenge hiërarchische macrostructuren die onze maatschappij en onze huidige steden vormgeven zijn twijfelachtig gefundeerd: het drang naar totale controle en organisatie resulteert in top down strategieën. Deze “genetic bug” van onze moderne wereld laat geen of weinig vrijheid voor creativiteit en expressiviteit.
Wij zoeken de scheuren in deze complexe maatschappij en we zien ze als een kans en om de discussie tussen de verschillende actoren van de publieke ruimte te stimuleren.
Aan de hand van kleine creatieve interventies op enkele strategische maar vergeten publieke plaatsen in de stad (Brussel, Gent, Rotterdam, Parijs, Rome, ...) lokken we de reactie uit tussen de stedelingen en de “bevoegde” overheden en tegelijkertijd revitaliseren we een hoekje van de stad.

Is a research design project in collaboration with the architecture school of LUCA/KU Leuven that engages in the use and appropriation of public spaces in contemporary cities.
The strong hierarchical macrostructures that rule our society and contemporary cities are based on a wrong foundation: the need for total control and organisation. But this “genetic bug” of our modern world still leaves opportunities for creativity and for free expression.
We want to use the cracks in our over-complex society as opportunities. We want to stimulate a debate between the different actors of the urban space. The insertion of small design interventions in some strategic but also forgotten urban spaces (Brussels, Ghent, Rotterdam, Rome and/or Paris, …) has the multiple intention of provoking a reaction both from the citizens and from the institutions and at the same time to revitalize a corner of the city.

Est un projet de recherche en design sur l’utilisation et l'appropriation des espaces publics dans les villes contemporaines, mené avec l'école d'architecture de LUCA / KU Leuven.
Les macrostructures fortement hiérarchisées qui régissent notre société et les villes contemporaines sont fondées sur de mauvaises bases: le désir d’organisation et de contrôle total. Ce " bug génétique " de notre monde moderne génère néanmoins beaucoup de possibilités de créativité et d’expressions libres.
Nous voulons utiliser les fissures dans cette société trop complexe pour en faire des opportunités. Nous voulons susciter un débat entre les différents acteurs dans l'espace urbain.
La mise en place stratégique d’installations de design dans des espaces urbains “oubliés” (de Bruxelles, Gand, Rotterdam, Rome et Paris) a pour intention de provoquer une réaction à la fois des citoyens et des institutions “competentes” tout en revitalisant un endroit de ville.
